College of Santa Fe Takeover Approved

(Santa Fe Homes Blog) The takeover of the College of Santa Fe by the State of New Mexico has been approved by the House Education Committee. According to The New Mexican:

“Members voted 6-5 to approve House Bill 577, which was introduced by Rep. Lucky Varela, D-Santa Fe, and outlines the requirements for any institution interested in a takeover.

Discussion around the bill lasted more than 90 minutes and presented the first opportunity for lawmakers to publicly question both the bill’s sponsors and higher education officials…”

  1. 90 minutes of discussion isn’t very long for such a big financial move. I find it interesting that the article only mentions the number of supporters… Were there honestly no people present who opposed the take over??? The article seems very slanted IMHO.

  2. I think the takeover of Santa Fe College is a satisfactory solution after a much hectic discussion fueled by lawmakers …
    Well now an aid from the State will be of great help not only for the college but also for its supporters as well as more importantly for students getting education there.!!!

  3. It was a step in the right direction which is beneficial for everyone. Moreover College of Santa Fe is like a Heritage with a history of 150 years.It really deserves grant from the state & that was possible only this way…

  4. Yes I agree with you as this Article only suggested the views of supporters, what about people who opposed it and it’s surprise for me that it just take only 90 minutes to pass the bill.
